The “green season” is the more romantic name given to the off-peak season stretching roughly from April to September in Southeast Asia. Visitors might be scared of huge monsoon rains and unbearable heat; but both of them are rather myths and not always facts. Temples on your own:  Angkor is considerably quieter in the green season. Most of the large groups have vanished; even the Bayon and Angkor Wat are much less visited. If you head out to Koh Ker and Beng Mealea you might be on your own. And our guides can take you to some less explored temples like the isolated Ta Nei, where you may be lucky to see some recently released Gibbons.

A country in its most colorful outfit: Cambodia’s sceneries are the most beautiful during the green season. The rice paddies are gorgeously green and verdant, the moats near the temples are full; and when conditions are just right, you can expect spectacular sunsets.

The weather offers cooler times: If the weather is often cloudless and sunny in the morning, rain can drop mostly in the afternoon. But rain is always brief and it breaks up the heat offering very cool sensation and giving a nice olfactory add-on to the nature around.

Value for money: Hotels and transportation normally offer low season rates. The exact same trip can then cost you a lower budget.

The magical Tonle Sap Lake: The green season is the best time to visit the floating villages of Kompong Pluk and Kompong Khleang. Water levels are getting higher, making it much easier to navigate through the villages by boat. Travel in June and July and see the water levels rising, but still appreciate the height of the bamboo skyscraper houses on stilts. Visit in August and September and the water levels completely flood the mangroves, which is a beautiful sight and it laps at the front steps of the stilted houses.

Budget again: Most flights from Western countries as well as from other Southeast Asia countries are cheaper during the green season.
