What you need to know about airlines in Vietnam

2

When planning your holiday in Vietnam, either by yourself or with the support of a travel agent, the question of the domestic flights and which airline to use is frequent. It is not always easy to decide. Various prices, different routes, different flying times, different levels of services, and a fluctuating commitment to flying on time; it is time to be clearer about all of this. Keep reading to discover a little guide to choose your airline in Vietnam.

Vietnam Airlines, the trustful partner

Vietnam Airlines is the national airline. They cover the largest number of routes, benefit from the priority at all airports, and could even be one of the best regional choices when traveling around Indochina, for example to Vientiane in Laos or Siem Reap in Cambodia.  Vietnam Airlines is often more expensive for the last-minute traveler. But they have eco tickets and loads of promotions around the year that definitely make them the best pick for early-bird bookings.

Vietjet Air, the local challenger

The latest arrived on the airline's scene in Vietnam, Vietjet Air quickly got the favors of domestic travelers. Thanks to some well-orientated promotion (…) and flow of discounted rates. They focus domestic routes in Vietnam, operate as a low-cost airline [carrying luggage is charged extra], and may sometimes re-schedule you on an earlier or later flight at the last minute. But generally speaking, the service is satisfying, western pilots are doing a great job and planes are often on time.

Jetstar, the regional low-cost

More precisely, the Jetstar Pacific Airlines branch is based in Vietnam. Very low-cost, cheap prices, but a strong tendency of being late, canceling flights and the reputation of having a pretty bad customer service. We do not say that you should not take a Jetstar flight, but they would definitely be the last on our list. Jetstar has just merged with Vietnam Airlines so they will be under operations of Vietnam airlines.

Bamboo, the newest airlines

Bamboo Airways is the newest airline company that starts its operation in January 2019. The airline has the most modern aircraft such as Boeing 787 - 9 Dreamliner, Airbus A321Neo. Start with 20 airbus planes, by 2020, the fleet of Bamboo Airways will increase to 40 Airbus A320, A321, and 20 aircraft of Boeing B787-9. And after 2 years, the airline will increase its fleet with 60 A320, A321, and 40 Boeing 7787-9 aircraft. Bamboo Airways has flights to many destinations throughout Vietnam and will shortly extend to international flights to East Asia, Southeast Asia, and Europe.
