Vietnam fully reopens borders to tourists
2As officially announced, Vietnam will fully open borders to international tourists from March 15, 2022. Accordingly, Vietnam treats international tourists the same as domestic tourists, in terms of pandemic precaution measures. Below is updated information on entry and quarantine requirements and visa application into Vietnam, following the Official Dispatch No. 1265/BYT-DP by the Ministry of Health. Vietnam's Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam said at a meeting with the ministries of tourism and foreign affairs: "The spirit is that we will not treat foreign tourists and local people differently, in terms of pandemic precaution measures. We are not just reopening tourism but also international trade and international exchange from March 15, as it used to be before Covid-19"
Covid testing requirements
- For air passengers: Travelers have to have the NEGATIVE test with SARS-CoV-2 (except for children under two years old) within 72 hours using the RT-PCR method or within 24 hours using rapid antigen tests before departure.
- For road, waterway, railway travelers: Those who cannot take a test before arrival have to be tested within 24 hours after entering. If the result is negative, they can leave their accommodation and if the result is positive, they will have to notify local authorities.
- Children under two are not required to take the Covid test
Health declaration and NO quarantine upon arrival in Vietnam
- Travelers have to make medical declarations before entering and use the PC-Covid application during their stay in Vietnam.
- If travelers have any symptoms of Covid (fever, cough; sore throat; runny nose, fatigue, decreased or lost taste, headache, etc.), they will have to immediately notify medical authorities at the arrival port.
Self health-monitoring and Covid prevention and control measures
- Visitors are required to self- monitor their health for the first 10 days after arrival and notify medical staff if they have symptoms of Covid and take preventive measures such as wearing masks, cleaning hands with hand sanitizer.
Visa
Besides Covid testing requirement, Vietnam also allows the prior-Covid Vietnam entry policy to be resumed, including:
- Resumption of 15-day unilateral visa exemption for citizens of 13 countries including Germany, France, Italy, Spain, UK, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Belarus until March 14, 2025.
- E-visa and pre-arrange visa on arrival will be resumed.

Pandemic is well controled in Vietnam

Vietnam has injected 77,9 million of its adult population from 12. years old (81.15% of total population) with two Covid-19 vaccine doses and is among the six countries with the highest vaccination rate.

Domestic travel has been resumed totally from Oct 11th, 2021 without any restriction. Popular destinations including Sapa, Halong Bay, Phu Quoc island has received a big numbers of domestic travellers especially during Tet holiday. The beach destinations including Da Nang, Nha Trang and Cam Ranh, Phan Thiet are getting very busy as the summer holiday is approaching.

As of March 16, 2022, Vietnam’s Ministry of Health confirmed a total of 6,552,918 cases of COVID-19. However, 3,383,142 of the affected patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals.

Vietnam lifted restrictions on the frequency of regular international flights from February 15 as per the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.

Hanoi authorities lifted a 9:00 pm ban on dine-in restaurants and beverage venues, allowing them to operate as normal. In addition, pedestrian streets around Sword Lake and other areas would reopen from March 18.
