HOW TO GET TO PU LUONG

2

There are a few ways to get to Pu Luong, either by public transportation or by private transfer. Pu Luong can be added in a popular tour from Hanoi with stops in Mai Chau, Ninh Binh (Hoa Lu and Tam Coc) and Halong Bay too.

Getting to Pu Luong by public transportation

From Hanoi, you can take a public bus to Ba Thuoc (Canh Nang town). The bus stop is in the town and from here, you can hire a taxi motorbike to Pu Luong for a 20-km drive. There is the Hoang Phuong bus (cell phone: +84 97373 7778) that goes to Ba Thuoc every day.

It is not easy to take public transportation as there is no direct public bus to Pu Luong. Those who want to use public transportation need to combine different means. The best is to use private transportation or to rent a bike from Mai Chau for a cycling day to Pu Luong and spend a night here. The followings are for more details:

Getting to Pu Luong by private vehicle

From Hanoi, you can make a loop along National Road No.6 then take one of the options: either via Lung Van or Mai Chau and continue to Pu Luong Nature Reserve. It can take you up to 5 hours including halfway refreshment. On the way back, you’ll take National Road No. 15C and 217 with a stop-over at Cam Luong stream that is also referred to as "the stream of holy fishes". Continue with a ride along Ho Chi Minh Road to Xuan Mai (National Road No.6) then onto Hanoi. Or if you have time, let’s spend one more day to explore Cuc Phuong National Park.

From Ho Chi Minh city, take a flight to Hanoi then follow the above instruction. Another option is to fly to Thanh Hoa then hire a motorbike by the airport for a drive to Pu Luong. Just take National Road No. 15 for about 100km and you’ll arrive at Pu Luong after 4 or 5 hours depending on weather condition and traffic condition.

If you would like to combine with some visiting sites in Thanh Hoa province, you can stop at Lam Kinh – the ancient capital city of Vietnam dated back to the 15th century, and Cam Luong stream fish.

From Ninh Binh, take the National Road No. 217 via Cam Luong stream fish then take National Road No. 15C to Pu Luong Nature Reserve. The total driving time is 3 hours more or less.
